Here is the result of my first year at West Dean College. It is a tenor sized viola da gamba after Shem Mackey. It has a spruce top, maple back, sides and neck, ebony tailpiece and fingerboard. Ebony pegs, gut strings. I've learned a lot this year and am very pleased with the outcome, there were definitely challenging aspects but the construction methods are much more lenient than I expected. I will be displaying the Gamba at the Early Music Exhibition in the first week of November on the West Dean stall.
